Todays baby

Another Mississippi Kite hatchling this time, and not quite ready to fly but definitely dehydrated. I’ll feed him and hydrate him and in the morning he will go to the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center. Over the years I have gotten many kite’s when the temperature goes up. They are a very social small raptor, and will go to bird baths, dog dishes and any pan of water to splash and get a drink. It is unfortunate that this one was picked up because it has no injury and it’s parents would have fed and protected it if left alone. I ask people to put them back in the general area they were found in. The parents just want their baby back. In a few months this guy will be big enough to be on his own and I’ll take him back to the town he came from.
