It started Sunday. We were cleaning the aviaries, washing the water falls, filling water bowls and then the well pump quit. Fortunately, Jim, as a custom home builder, knows who to call. So promptly at 1pm on Monday the well guys arrived. It was getting thirsty and dirty around here but we have an extra tank of 250 gallons of water for just such emergencies. This is west Texas after all. Anyway by dinner time we had water!

Then a friend brought over her baby Moluccan Cockatoo. I have some speaking engagements so I thought I would take a bird with me. My bright idea was to work with this 1 year old for a month and be able to handle it. It is not weaned. My friend has the parents and the baby has been with Mom all this time. So step one is to wean the baby and then train it for show and tell. It is actually a very sweet baby and went into the shower this morning with a minimum of stress. I call him Tilman after the skate boarding english bull. I am also working on him to put his foot up for toe nail grooming. It is so much easier to have a bird hold out it’s foot for grooming. This is one of the many things that you can learn on Goodbirdinc.com.
Oh and one other exciting bit of news. Our llamas, now residing at a friends ranch, gave birth to a little baby boy llama at 5pm Sunday. The mom is named Sarah Palinllama, dad is John McCainllama and the baby is Barrack Obamallama. As was recently stated it took two republican to make one democrat. The names are so ripe with one line jokes. Have fun with it.
So today we start all over again, cleaning and feeding. It is a good thing we love birds or this might get to be a lot of work. Thank you Lord for volunteers.
