Senior Sitters

There is one Bird Tails Project that is nearest and dearest to my heart and has far reaching benefits, the “Senior Sitter” program. Let me explain. Having a lot of birds requires a lot of cleaning and repairs. The birds actually get less time with me and other people because we are busy. It occurred to me that if someone could just come over and sit by the aviaries and talk, it would greatly benefit the birds. They are happier, talkative and even eat better with companionship from humans. It greatly benefits the birds in amazing ways.

An unexpected benefit has become very apparent, the people sitting talking, holding, singing and playing the flute , enjoy it as much as the birds. Children just want to be active, “Seniors” are more peaceful and can focus on one bird at a time.

I, a Senior, have found so much pleasure in the daily visits and having someone who will spend quality time with a grieving bird, a lonely macaw or a conure that wants desperately to sing to someone.

It is very easy for me to become take oriented and isolate myself working at the Sanctuary. The Senior Sitters, make me stop and enjoy each day.

I am certain that God’s Hand is on Bird Tails.
