Drs Tim Morton and LaDonna Wyatt from the Family Pet Care Hospital in Fort Worth came to the Sanctuary Thursday afternoon. They examined all the birds, including the ones that Wing of Love Bird Haven in Red Oak has accepted, from this 38 parrot rescue.
Well, the good news is that the birds are in better condition than expected, according to Dr Morton. They all have red throats, poor feather condition, very few are thin. In fact the majority are, shall we say, chubby. They have been on straight pellet food and NO exercise. We will correct that once they come out of quarantine.

So 38 parrots were examined, blood drawn and cultures taken, for a wide variety of communicable bird diseases. Now we wait for the results. All the birds will be placed on an antibiotic, the sick birds will be on antibiotics and other medications longer. We did not clip any toe nails or wings. That would be just too much stress. Since all the birds are fully feathered for flight they will have to be clipped before they leave quarantine.
In the interim we are introducing a huge variety of produce in the daily “slaw,” the full spectrum lights are now on and they are being spray bathed daily with distilled water and aloe vera. Most are getting vocal and moving around in their new cages. The baby Senegals are super sweet. They step up and are very curious about me. The Meyers are still spooky and panic easily. The amazons are aggressive and the african gray is just panic stricken. And the Hyacinth just barks once in a while and watches all the activity.
Bird Tails is a full capacity.
