Day five of the quarantine is almost over and we have settled into a routine. Weatherford Farmers Market filled the back of my truck with fruit and vegetable, which we processed all together into a “slaw”. It was suggested to me that since these birds have not had produce for a long time and in some cases, ever, that mixing fruit and vegetables would be the best way to serve it. They are exposed to all the produce and cannot be choosey. It is sort of working. Some of the birds ate like they were starving, no surprise there, while other won’t come near it.

It is hot today so I just served up watermelon, grapes and blackberries, all chilled, as a hot afternoon treat. Next thursday Drs Morton and Wyatt are coming over from the Family Pet Care Hospital, in Fort Worth, to examine the birds and draw blood. Until then we care keeping them well fed, watered and in filtered natural light so they can adjust to the day and night cycles. Remember they have been kept in total darkness so they have no sense of time or seasons.
We have gotten some donations for which I am extremely thankful. Every penny goes to the care of the birds. Please keep us in your prayers.
