Several months ago a gentleman brought me a Great Horned Owl that was caught in barbed wire. He freed it from the wire with loss of many feathers and found one wing was almost totally detached. Bone and soft tissue were separated and only a small strip of tissue held the wing to the body. In a note to me from Blackland Prairie Raptor Center, to the people that found the owl, “I know you said they were very concerned. If you talk to them, you can let them know that the only reason we were able to save the wing was because they found it as quickly as they did. Had they waited that skin would have died off.”
Because of the individuals caring and quick action, The owl was save and I released it yesterday.
Let us not forget the magnificent effort the doctors and staff of Blackland Prairie Raptor Center give to these birds. It is a privilege to know them.
